The internships at the University of Cambridge, UK

We would like to alert you to an opportunity for funded internships through the Student Conference on Conservation Science, which takes place from 23rd-25th March 2010, and is hosted by the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge, UK.

The internship scheme funds SCCS delegates who are at an early stage of their career and are from developing countries and eastern Europe to spend up to one month after the conference with a UK-based conservation NGO or a university department carrying out a project of mutual interest. Further details, including information on eligibility, application procedure and guidelines on project ideas, can be found on the SCCS website at: http://www.sccs-cam.org/internships.htm
The BirdLife Secretariat office in Cambridge would be keen to host interns from the BirdLife network with an interest in any science, policy or information management topics relevant to the BirdLife programme (e.g. on threatened species, Important Bird Areas etc.). Anyone who is eligible and interested in carrying out an internship with us should look at the information on the website above and e-mail a project idea by 30th September 2009 to:

Andy Symes (andy.symes@birdlife.org ) if you are from Africa or the Middle East
Jez Bird (jez.bird@birdlife.org ) if you are from eastern Europe or the Americas
Ben Lascelles (ben.lascelles@birdlife.org ) if you are from Asia or the Pacific

We will then work with BirdLife Regional Secretariat staff to select a small number of candidates and help them to develop their proposals further before final submission to SCCS by 31st October 2009. In the last couple of years we have successfully hosted three SCCS interns and are keen to work with you again to make full use of this opportunity.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
 Jez Bird
