Eco-Volunteer at El Dorado Reserve (Colombia) for free

ProAves and EcoTurs are offering a special opportunity for students and professionals - volunteer for conservation in the wonderful El Dorado Reserve this summer for free! We have a limited number of spaces between June-August this summer in the Eco-volunteers Program to undertake physical activities to repair and improve the road and ecological trails in the El Dorado Nature Reserve in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta from 22 June to 31 August 2010.

We require people in excellent physical condition, highly motivated and enthusiastic for a minimum duration of four weeks. In return, all accommodation and food is free.
Volunteers are expected to undertake hard physical activities for seven hours a day, five days a week. Volunteer activities are concentrated on repairing and improving road access and ecological trails, including improved drainage (e.g. cleaning gutters), filling holes, clearing landslides, fallen rocks and logs. These activities involve using tools such as pickaxes, machetes, axes, shovels and wheel-burrow. Teams of five people will work together and interchange activities. These activities are extremely physical and only applicants that can undertake them should apply.

When applicants are approved, a placement and processing fee of 200,000 pesos or US $100 is required (payment via paypal using credit card or other means). Volunteers are expect o pay travel costs (including flights) to Santa Marta. The costs of all meals and lodging in El Dorado are provided for free. ProAves will also transport all volunteers from Santa Marta to the reserve.
